This is a reproduction of a Beloit Iron Works advertisement that is reported to have been in a city directory in 1889. The picture appears to be either of a reel or winder, more likely a reel. The text at the top of the ad lists the company officers as Fred Messer, President and Manager, N. J. Ross Superintendent, Alonzo Aldrich, Secretary, W. H Grinnell, Treasurer
Looking at a blow-up of the machine portion of the ad it would appear that sheet travel is from right to left in the picture. The equipment in the foreground is probably a cone pulley drive with a flywheel and a manual belt adjuster to set the draw. One could make a case that the equipment on the right of the top mandrel or roll cluster is a slitter arrangement of some type.

The text beneath the ad reads:

Calenders, cone pulley and stop cutters, heavy and medium automatic ream cutters. iron and gunmetal plunger pumps, fan pumps - six sizes: Kingsland engines, steel knives, rag cutters rag dusters, revolving and stack reels, single and double iron screen vats, friction pulleys, cylinder washers with galvanized iron or copper dippers, heaviest washer frames in the market,. Calenders and press rolls accurately ground.

There is nothing in the line of Paper Making machinery which this company does not manufacture. It can turn out a Complete Paper Mill every thirty days. The superior excellence of its production has not only gained a national reputation, but attacks the patronage of Foreign lands.
