Issued latest machine shop "Injury Prevention" pamphlet during the

month of October -

Installed #752 Ingersoll milling machine for machining baseplates.

Created Department 57 for manufacturing rectifier rolls on second

floor of pipe shop with its own specially designed equipment.

Divorced steam fit assembly from sub assembly, placing complete

integrated work under supervision of Department 55.

New and Expanded Facilities: Foundry

New metallurgical, metallography, chemical, and sand testing 

facilities were installed in new quarters in the foundry along with new

foundry offices.

Placed in operation second locomotive sand slinger in new foundry.

Second foundry cupola placed in operation during September.

New core drying ovens placed in operation during September.

Foundry started producing 5-1/2 dryers per day in October, in

creasing to six a day in November.

New enlarged foundry and core room placed in operation in June,

along with new roll and dryer pits and dryer ovens.

New and larger exhaust system placed in operation in north foundry

to accommodate new shake out unit.

Modern sand handling, blending, screening, and aerating equipment

placed in operation.

Retirements: Office

On November 23 the Iron Works honored two retiring employees.

E. H. Neese, Sr., chairman, presented Wiley Smith and Cassius R.

Whipple with colorfully illustrated and signed scrolls in gratitude for their

past services. Pentti Halle, director of Enso-Gutzeit Company in Finland,

presented a medal and certificate on behalf of his firm to Mr. Whipple.

Pentti Halle in turn was honored by this company.
