Merrill and Houston tiled copyright with the

Library of Congress covering the George A. Houston

turbine water-wheel.

The Ames Pulp Company commenced operation

in Appleton, later known as the Appleton Paper and

Pulp Mills.

F. N. Da vis Manufacturing Company organized

with a capital of $100,000.00 in Beloit. The plant

was located on South State Street and employed thirty

to fifty men. They produced building paper, paper

carpeting, paper pails, and barrels.

The Ames Pulp Company commenced operation

in Appleton and later changed its name to Appleton

Paper and Pulp Mills.
