Comments;

The Beloit Iron Works purchased the frame shop,

machinery, patterns, etc., of the now defunct Merrill

and Houston Iron Works.

(1887-1889)

L. B. Merrill and R. J. Burdge were taken into

the partnership, the latter becoming vice president.

The Gilbert Paper Company in Menasha was

organized.

The erecting of Beloit machines was done on the

west side of Race Street in a former hitching barn.

After erection and painting, the machines were dismantled,

loaded on a two-horse dray and transferred

to the railroad siding for loading on to cars.
