The Iron Works employees in the foundry numbered 44* The machine shop |

employed 128. The average pay was 22.9 cents per hour. |
|||||
|
Harry Tower and Wiley Smith came with the Iron Works, the former as a |
|||||
|
bookkeeper and the latter as a clerk in the cleaning mill office. |
|||||
|
During this year the two 98" tissue machines furnished China during the |
|||||
|
year 1900 were dismantled owing to the war, loaded in junks and moved inland on |
|||||
|
the Yangtze River. Some of the junks were sunk enroute, and the parts reaching |
|||||
|
their destination in tact were consolidated to make one complete machine then |
|||||
|
making Chinese currency. |
