The "Quickie" study reduces the information required to perform a winder study by eliminating the need to have slitter, splice and winder break data available. The "Quickie" accounts for this data by performing a statistical analysis of over 50 typical field installations to establish an Empirical Study Factor for various winder conditions. Testing indicates that in most cases results will be in the 5 % accuracy range when compared to more detail studies. This makes the "Quickie" a viable tool for close estimates until application specific data becomes available.
To make a "Quickie" Winder Study, enter the appropriate data in the white fields. Empirical Study Factors for various winder types and conditions are listed on the instruction sheet. There is also a listing of generic paper densities by paper grade if your paper density is not readily available. The default values in the orange area are typical for many of the more modern high speed winder operations reviewed. If more precise information is available, the data can be changed by simply typing over the values. The greatest share of winders reviewed had accel/decel rates in the 80/100 range. Duplexes tended to be in the 50/80 range. The greatest preponderance of the winders required a combined total of 4 minutes to load the unwind and thread the winder. Typical set change times for automatic and manual set changes are also reviewed in the instructions.
The Quickie" is not intended as a replacement for a complete and detailed winder study but is meant to provide a quick, reasonably accurate report which can be the basis for a more definitive study at a future date.
There are both paper and board charts and full instructions available on each study spreadsheet.
